Have you ever heard of the Misanga bracelet?

It’s similar to the friendship bracelet but it has some meanings. People usually say that when the Misanga breaks, wishes come true. The concept started in the 1600s, at a church in Finland. They made knitted strings with their wishes or hopes, and they made it into a bracelet so they can be with it all the time.

In my home country, Japan, it is really common to make this Misanga bracelet for friends or partners, especially for teenagers.

Also, each bracelet has meaning depending on where you wear and the color of strings you use.

Do you want to know the meaning and try making it? See below!

Where You Wear

Your Good Wrist

If you wear it on your good wrist (the one you write or eat with), it has a meaning of love especially for couples. If you have a crush on someone or if you have a partner, you should wear it on your good wrist.

Opposite Wrist

If you wear it on the opposite wrist, it means you will succeed academically. If you are trying to get into a good university or want to get a good grade, you should wear it on the opposite wrist for luck.

Your Good Ankle

If you wear it on your good ankle, it indicates friendship and success. For example, if you are going to be separated from your friends after moving or graduating. Or, if you want to win a sports game, or you’re unemployed and want to get a job.

Opposite Ankle

On your opposite ankle, it brings luck financially. If you want to be a millionaire, or you want to save money, this is a good place to put it.

Color

Also, it has meanings depending on the color of the strings you use.

  • White means cleanliness.

  • Purple shows growth in the mind and is believed to increase intuition.

  • Blue generally represents peace and relief. It creates calm and reduces stress.

  • Light Blue indicates peace, harmony and creativity.

  • Green means health and growth. It helps to refresh our body and mind.

  • Light Green represents friendship, relief and health.

  • Red stands for energy and power. Also, it means love too.

  • Pink shows love, kindness, and happiness. It can be used especially for crafts for friends and partners. It is speculated to help make our mind stable.

  • Yellow indicates wealth and money.

  • Orange shows success and bravery. It might give us the courage to challenge new things.

  • Brown represents stability and reliability.

  • Black stands for protection from negative things and protects you from bad coincidences.
